Predictive Marketing enables personalization of content and messaging to customers for maximum effect. This site serves you, the retailer, to identify vendors that provide solutions to online retailers that fall under the predictive marketing umbrella.

Because predictive marketing is a broad topic and making sense of vendor offerings can sometimes be difficult, we have attempted to categorize the various vendor products into a clear set of solution categories. Each category has a concise definition at the bottom of this page. We welcome input from the community on the category names, their definitions and any categories that we are missing.

In addition to these categories, some vendors focus primarily on delivering personalized content on the retailer's web site and others primarily on email marketing. Vendors in the latter group are indicated with the envelope icon:  Many vendors do both but we've classified them into one or the other based on which of their offering has more focus or is more mature.

With 50 solutions already and no doubt more to come, for this resource to be truly useful, it was important to us to narrow our vendor selections according to these criteria:

  • Currently, vendor must have a web site in English
  • Vendor's offering must be targeted at online retailers and not just general content publishers.
  • Solutions must go beyond predictive analytics and actually enable the delivery of the right marketing mesage to the right customer.
  • Currently, vendors that include predictive marketing features as components of a full-fledged e-commerce platform are not included

Please use a desktop browser. Then, in the grid below, you will be able to sort, filter and group vendor offerings by using the menu that drops from each column header. You can also expand each record using the + icon to see additional notes, and some example clients. Not having any examples listed means we were either unable to find any publicly listed client references on the vendor site or the vendor is very well-known with hundreds of customers. In addition, for most vendors, you'll be able to see some key information from the vendor's page on Crunchbase, the leading online database of technology companies, people, and investors.

Categories:

A Guided Selling solution walks an online shopper through a series of questions and selections to help him narrow down the choice of products. Although other guided selling solutions exist, to be included here, the solution has to also be personalized based on other observed behavior for this shopper and not just rules-based and the same for all shoppers.
Offer Optimization solutions deliver the right offer to the right customer leveraging predictive models to increase the likelihood of a sale or increase the order size. The focus here is on the general offer (such as a discount or free shipping) and not on specific products.
Solutions in this category personalize the search and site navigation experience for each visitor, influencing sort order of products, or which categories are made more prominent, etc.
Product Recommendations shown on a product page or sent via an email are the most common type of predictive marketing. Solutions here choose which products to show to whom based on predictive models.
Solutions in this category show personalized offers to visitors using retailer-configured rules typically based on retailer-defined segments as opposed to using machine learning techniques.
These solutions focus on making it easy for retailers to send properly-timed emails to customers such as for shopping cart abandonment, but don't use predictive models to recommend the right products in such emails.
